Security Tokens and Access Credentials
To protect your account and digital identity, ensure the confidentiality of your login information such as your username, password, and verification tools (e.g., token devices or one-time passwords [OTP]). These tools confirm your identity within the bank’s systems, and any negligence in protecting them may allow others to access your accounts and perform unauthorized transactions.
Common Fraudulent Attacks
Social Engineering
Social engineering is a deceptive fraud technique that manipulates individuals rather than breaching systems. It aims to trick victims into revealing personal or confidential information that should not be shared with strangers. These attacks may come through phone calls, emails, text messages, faxes, or even regular mail all designed to gain trust and extract sensitive information for fraudulent use.
Phishing
Phishing is a form of social engineering intended to obtain your personal information (such as credit card numbers, passwords, or account details) for fraudulent purposes. Fraudsters may request this information via emails or messages that appear to come from trusted sources like your bank or credit card company, or through fake websites designed for this purpose.
- Tips to Protect Yourself from Phishing:
- Do not reply to the message or click on any links
- Contact us and delete the email after reporting it
- Ensure your antivirus and antispyware programs are up-to-date and scan your device, especially if you clicked on a link or attachment in the email
Email and SMS Spoofing
Email and SMS spoofing involve sending messages that appear to be from a trusted source, but in fact come from another origin.
Example:
A fraudster sends an email identical to one from a known institution, requesting a funds transfer to a new bank account. In reality, the account belongs to the fraudster not the actual institution you deal with.
Identity Theft
Identity theft involves stealing sensitive personal data such as a national ID number, social security number, or bank account information to open accounts or conduct transactions in the victim’s name without their knowledge.
In some cases, fraudsters may impersonate bank employees to request such information. Always verify the identity of the person or organization contacting you by phone, email, or any other means by requesting official identification before sharing any personal or financial details.
Please note that the Islamic International Arab Bank will never request such information (e.g., username, password, PIN, OTP). If you receive such a request, do not engage or share any confidential information, and contact us immediately to report it.
Additional Tips to Protect Your Personal Information
- Exercise extreme caution when shopping online. Only enter your credit card and personal details on trusted websites and during transactions you initiate.
- Always use a secure site with 3D Secure authentication when entering credit card numbers or personal details online. Verify the security certificate before sharing any information.
- Regularly use the bank’s services (such as online banking, SMS, phone, or ATMs) to monitor your account activity and identify any fraudulent transactions.
