The International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is a number designed to standardize bank account formats across banks operating in Jordan, in accordance with international standards. This aims to enhance the efficiency of the national payments system, support the development of payment systems in the Kingdom, and improve the effectiveness, speed, and accuracy of financial transactions. It is also an internationally required standard that must be adhered to.
The IBAN is not a new bank account number, but rather an enhanced format of the existing bank account number. It standardizes the length of all bank account numbers in the Kingdom, making it easier to process and transmit bank transfers through electronic systems. The IBAN allows for the precise and rapid identification of the beneficiary's account number and enables the sending bank to verify its validity.
